I was the Lead FX TD on this spot. I developed an ocean tool that could be applied across many shots in an efficient enough way to iterate quickly and art direct the look of the fluid / ocean. The original plates for this commercial had a physical prop whale shot in a pool. A full CG whale is rendered in the commercial. The tricky part about the CG whale was getting correct integration with the water. In many of the shots the water that was shot was completely replaced with 2D and 3D elements. The water that interacted with the whale was all 3D renders and certain shots had 2D plates of an ocean blended in with the 3D. This was definitely a challenging project, but very rewarding in the end having so much of the final picture consisting of fluid and foam simulations that I created.
